My name is Carl Dungca. I've studied at the University of Central Florida and its Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) master's program, earning a BA in Digital Media (focus: Internet & Interactive Systems) and an MS in Interactive Entertainment (focus: Production). I have been an avid video game player my whole life, beginning with playing pinball in arcades as a toddler. I now own all current video game consoles and a large video game library. I believe there is merit to all games, good and bad. Fundamentally, I think it is important to understand why bad games fail so we can see what problems to avoid during design and development and build a strong foundation.

Some design goals important to me are semiotics, player feedback, and ease of interaction. I want to make playing games more subconscious and more natural. The game interacts with the player through subtle environmental clues, visual and aural. Without blatant signposts, a player should always know what is possible to perform and that the game has acknowledged the player's action, wrong or right. The player interacts with the games through some interface; I want to expand that interface beyond the control pad that limits us to just our thumbs and index fingers.

The VidZone Network has existed in one form or another since 1996, beginning as a Nintendo and 3Dfx Interactive news website and evolving into a design label for works that I have produced, including graphic design, print, websites, written word, video, and music. VZnet's web servers were affected by the events of September 11, 2001, resulting a total loss of data and its web presence has remained dormant until a soft-relaunch-cum-school-project in the summer of 2006. The VidZone Network's current incarnation was unveiled in February 2009 as a personal portfolio and industry blog.
